Survey on Worship and Sunday services

What is worship?

In the New Testament, worship is how we serve God every moment of our lives, 24/7. (Romans 12:1.2) We gather in church as believers for these purposes:-teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread (Communion) and prayer. (Acts 2: 42). The underlying purpose of this meeting together is “the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good”, which leads to “strengthening, encouragement and comfort.” (1 Corinthians 12-14) Another word that is used is edification- the building up of the body of Christ. It is clear from these chapters that it would be quite normal for those without faith to be present in Christian gatherings. These purposes can be easily remembered in the summation that church is about looking up in worship, looking in for fellowship and looking out for service.
