'How to Pray'
A simple guide for normal people.
Hodder and Stoughton ISBN 978-1-529-37492-6
Pete Greig has been teaching on prayer and leading a non-stop prayer movement that has been hugely popular among Students and young people, (called '24-7 Prayer') for more than 20 years. The book is a balanced survey of different aspects of prayer, engagement with God in worship through different media, different styles, and both traditional and more contemporary ways. It is described by Nicky Gumbel (one of the pioneers of the Alpha Course) as "the book I've been waiting for". Pete suggests a pattern for prayer based on the four letters of the word 'Pray': P-Pause, R-Rejoice, A-Ask, Y-Yield, emerging from the Lord's Prayer, and gives practical advice on how to start, or grow our praying. He also gives some potted introductions to what he calls heroes of prayer. If you have found theological writings a bit heavy, Pete has an easy style, and illustrates his points with real life incidences, this is a realistic look at how we can pray, draw close to God, and make an eternal difference to our neighbourhood and beyond. I recommend this book.
