Charities supported by St Luke's
St Luke's support many charities, first through our Sunday Collections, second through fundraising events like the Lent lunches, and third through personal initiatives and special mission projects such as the Children of the Promise Foundation in Oradea, Romania.
A tenth of all that is given to St. Luke's is given away to those in greater need. The "Outward Giving Group" meet each year to choose which projects to support, and recent policy has been to try to support a limited number of charities substantially rather than more charities with less money. 3 of those charities have been promised a 3 year commitment of funding. We believe this helps charities budget more effectively and so use our gifts more effectively.
In 2014 the following groups were supported;
Acorn Christian Healing, Hampshire, UK
Children of the Promise, Romania
Ibadan Orphanage, Nigeria
St. Luke's Grimethorpe, Yorkshire, UK
Testimony Faith Homes, Kenya
Yei Teacher Training College, South Sudan
Bordon Family Worker, Bordon, UK
Personal initiatives and Mission projects
Members of the parish also travel to Zermatt each year to support the Anglican church and its work with local English speakers, resort workers and tourists. While there a concert was given by Chen Wang, soprano, which raised over £100 for ICS the sponsors of the church.
