Alpha - What's it all about.
Alpha Course
The Alpha course is open to everyone interested in discovering what Christianity is about. Come, relax, eat, share your thoughts and explore the meaning of life.
The St Luke’s Alpha course lasts for 11 weeks, with a day away in the middle. Each session begins with a meal - a chance to get to know others in the small group. There is then a short talk, which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is followed by a time of discussion in the small groups, where everyone is welcome to contribute their opinion, ask questions and discuss with the rest of the group.
The emphasis is upon exploration and discovery in a relaxed and informal environment.
Over the course, the talks address Jesus life, his death and resurrection and topics such as the Bible, prayer and healing. An integral part of Alpha is the day away where the focus is on the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
What people say about Alpha:
I believe the Alpha Course touches lives. I have seen so many people find a personal relationship with God & a quiet strength in their life after doing the course - me included - and it takes a proud man to say he never needs any help.
Alpha is a non-pressured, and fun course, and it shows us how Christianity can be relevant and empowering to our lives.
I've seen Alpha touch so many people over the years. I’ve seen it encourage people to find a very simple faith.
Bear Grylls, TV Adventurer
We were so suspicious that we sat in the car watching people going in to Alpha. To our astonishment they looked normal.
It was great to ask questions that I'd probably carried with me for years without having to worry about sounding stupid or shocking, or about seeming not very knowledgeable or extremely naughty or any of these things.
Jo, London
I was quite cynical ... but it was brilliant to be able to question openly in a supportive atmosphere
Jan, Liverpool
For the inquiring mind, there is nothing better around than the Alpha course.
Tony Campolo, Author
What Alpha offers, and what is attracting thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions - life and death and their meaning.
The Guardian, London
Everyone is invited to join us on a journey of discovery. Come and ask any questions, talk about real problems, build friendships and enjoy eating together.
At Alpha no question is too simple or too provocative!
