ST LUKE'S GRIMETHORPE FUND

Grimethorpe used to be a busy mining village until the mine was closed, together with the coking plant and power station, and the village became one of the poorest in England, with a very high unemployment rate.

The vision of the Fund is to divide the Church so that the east end will remain a place of worship and the nave will be converted on three floors to provide a Village Hall, a Mining Museum and small office units available for rent.

Every Anglican diocese in the world, and all the churches dedicated to St Luke in England were asked to help with donations. A special collection was taken at Grayshott Church, and a local artist gave some pictures to be auctioned.
Two Christmas Anagram Quizzes locally have raised about £1,650 but these sums are just a drop in the ocean of what is needed to get the project reallymoving. Sadly, the appeal for Lottery money was unsuccessful this year as there were "too many requests from South Yorkshire".

We are fortunate to live in a lovely part of England where, even in a credit crunch period, it is still possible to raise money for worthy projects.

Please come to the concert by The Fishpond Choir on September 6th to help us give a boost to St Luke's Grimethorpe Fund.
