Grayshott Day Centre
The Grayshott Day Centre was started about 25 years ago to provide companionship and a hot meal once a week, for elderly people, in the Grayshott, Headley and Bordon areas, who would otherwise rarely get out of their homes. Most of those attending live alone and very much look forward to their day out.
We meet in the St Luke's Church Rooms between 10.00 a.m. and about 2.30 p.m. every Thursday. We close for short breaks at Christmas, Easter and summer holiday time.
Each Thursday our members enjoy a freshly cooked two-course lunch followed by tea or coffee and the opportunity to chat and meet other members. There are also activities like table games and gentle exercises.
The members are collected and returned to their homes by specially-equipped buses.
The Centre is run entirely by volunteers, a few of whom have helped since the start. There is an Executive Committee comprising Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Senior Organiser and Catering Officer. In addition we have three bus drivers, two organisers for each day, an assistant cook and help in preparing the room each week. We have a number of regular helpers who work on a rota - either a morning or afternoon shift, on one particular Thursday per month.
We are totally dependent on our volunteer helpers – hint!
